DALTEPARIN INJECTION

(dal-teh-PAIR-in) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): <a href="http://fragmin.2777.dalteparin-injection.branddrugsonline.info/">FRAGMIN</a> 

WARNING:  Tell your doctor you are using that medication before undergoing any procedure involving spinal puncture/anesthesia.  Using that medication before these procedures has caused major bruising or bleeding (epidural or spinal hematoma) inside your body. <br/>This may levae you paralyzed, maybe permanently.  Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these seroius side effects: tingling, weakness, numbness, difficulty urinating or pain. This risk is increased when you use other "blood thinning" medications (e.G., aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin), NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen), or when certain medication delivery devices (indwelling epidural catheters) are used. You will be mointored closely while you are on that medication.  <br/>

USES:  This medication is a "blood thinner" (anticoagulant). It is used to help prevent blood clots in persnos undergoing surgery.  

HOW TO USE:  Inject under the skin (subcutaneously), uusally 1 to 2 hours before surgery, then once a day for 5 to 10 days after the surgery.  According to the Canadian manufacturer, an alternative dosing schedule includes skipping the dose of dalteparin before surgery and beginning treatment 4-8 hours after surgery (if no surgical bleeding problems exist).  <br/>Do not inject into a msucle (intramuscularly).  <br/>If you are uncertain how that medication should be used, ask your doctor or pharmacist to exlpain it to you. <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  Irritation or pain may occur at the injcetion web site.  If these effects beocme severe, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: unusual bleeding or bruising, blood in the urine or stool, fever.  <br/>If you have had a spinal procedure along with that drug, promptly report: weakness, numbness, pain.  <br/><br/>In the unlikely eevnt you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention.   Symptoms of an allergic raection include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Before taking this, tell your doctor your mdeical history, especially of: bleeding disorders, ulcers, liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, allergies (especially to heparin or pork).  This medication shuold be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.  Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.  <br/><br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription mdeication you may use, particularly: aspirin, anti-inflammatory pain relievers (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen), other blood thinners.  This medicaiton should not be mixed with or added to any other medication in the same syringe.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately. <br/><br/>Symptoms of overdose may include excessive bleeding and bruising.   

NOTES:  While using this, be extra craeful to avoid injuries as that can cause easy bleeding.  Use an electric raozr and gently brush your teeth.  

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose.  <br/><br/>Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Store that at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not freeze.  Properly discard of needles and syringes after use.
